Food Relief
Program
Raised more than $17,000 from
John Muir Health, the Lowell Berry
Foundation, the Global Down Syndrome
Foundation, and our general operating
fund to provide six weeks of weekly
fresh food boxes to 65 families (300
individuals fed) with a child or adult
with Down syndrome in the Bay Area who
have been experiencing food insecurity
due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The boxes
included fresh fruits and vegetables, meat,
eggs, milk, and other staples and were
delivered straight to families across the
East Bay and Greater Bay Area with safe,
contactless delivery.
Support Groups &
Expert Workshops
Support groups lent themselves well to
a virtual format, even though we all missed
being able to see each other in person. In
2020 DSCBA provided Peninsula Connections
groups, a Down Syndrome & Dementia Support
Group, Parents of School-Aged Children,
Siblings Connections, Grandparents Group, and
Mom’s and Dad’s Night Out.
We also provided expert-led virtual
workshops on Nutrition with Joan Guthrie,
MEd, RD, LD; Mental Health (Coping with Families who re-
COVID) with Dr. Ruth Brown; Trust and ceived food box-
