Camp
Volunteers Cassidy and In partnership with Rotary District 5160,
Stacy with successful bike the DSCBA hosted its first iCan Shine
rider Maia. (below) Rider Bike Camp for 40 members with Down
Andre with volunteer Romi. syndrome.
Riders attended one 75-minute session
each day for five consecutive days where
they learned to balance, pedal, and steer
using adapted bicycles. Continuous
adjustments to the stability of the bikes
challenged the riders’ balance as they
discovered the skill and joy of riding.
All riders had major accomplishments,
from overcoming fears, to improving exist-
ing skills, to riding independently!
The success of the program was largely
due to over 125 community volunteers who
acted as spotters to the riders - thank you!
Thank you to the following Rotary Clubs,
which made a monetary contribution
to this project: District 5160, Danville
Sycamore Valley Rotary, Danville Rotary,
Dougherty Valley/ San Ramon Rotary, San
Ramon Rotary, and Alamo Rotary.
